What You Need to Know About Google Workspace's Latest Pricing Changes

Since the launch of Google Workspace in October 2020, hundreds of new features have been added to facilitate secure collaboration from any location, including over 300 updates in 2022 alone.

These enhancements range from improvements to world-class security and reliability demanded by the largest customers to user-friendly tools for smaller teams. The power of Google Workspace's cloud-based apps is that these improvements are immediately available to all customers, delivering increased value.

Google Workspace has added several exciting features, including appointment scheduling, email marketing in Gmail, and soon e-signature support in Drive to help businesses connect with their customers. There are also new features in Meet and Chat that make it easier for hybrid workers to collaborate from anywhere, and built-in AI-powered data and threat protection capabilities to protect businesses from phishing and malware attacks.

In February, Google announced updates to its pricing plans to reflect the value of its products, with expanded commitment options to provide more choice for its customers. Firstly, an Annual Plan option is being introduced for all editions available through the website, allowing customers to commit to a longer-term agreement and lock in the lowest per-user price. Secondly, the price of Flexible Plan subscriptions will increase, offering customers the option to pay as they go with no commitment and the flexibility to add or delete user accounts at any time.

From March 14, 2023, new customers will be able to sign up for the new Annual Plan purchase option through the website, and existing customers on the Flexible Plan can switch to the Annual Plan in the Admin Console. Google Workspace Business editions' updated list prices will be provided to customers at the time of purchase.

Google has also announced that it will be increasing the price of Google Workspace Enterprise Standard to reflect the value that has been added to this edition, including industry-leading security controls and administrative features designed for large enterprises. However, there will be no list price changes to the other Enterprise editions, including education upgrades. Customers are advised to contact their account managers if they have any questions.

To ensure that existing partners and customers have sufficient time to prepare for the changes, the new pricing will be rolled out starting in April of this year and continuing through 2024. The rollout will depend on various factors, such as the number of user licenses, current contract terms, and payment plan. For example, pricing for existing Google Workspace subscriptions with 10 or fewer user licenses will remain unchanged until January 2024. Customers will be notified via the Google Workspace Admin Console at least 30 days before their price changes take effect and provided with more specific information to help them navigate the changes.

Furthermore, alongside these pricing changes, Google will also be adjusting some local currency pricing periodically to maintain alignment with exchange rates to the US dollar. Customers that will be impacted by any foreign exchange adjustments will be notified in advance of these changes.

Despite the pricing changes, Google Workspace continues to deliver excellent value to teams and organizations of all sizes at a competitive price, and Google remains committed to providing flexibility and choice to its customers. In the coming months, Google plans to invest in additional innovation to extend the power of AI to help people create and connect safely.
